| Resumen: | El presente trabajo pretende estudiar la performatividad de género de los personajes femeninos en cuatro de los cuentos de Mabinogion: la primera, segunda, tercera y cuarta ramas, cuatro cuentos medievales galeses relacionados, que conforman una unidad estilística con temas y personajes que reaparecen. El origen de los cuentos en la tradición oral ha sido estimado alrededor del siglo VII, pero los manuscritos, escritos en galés medio por escribas cristianos han sido fechados alrededor del siglo XIII. Para abordar el análisis de los actos performativos disruptivos en estos cuentos, se contextualizaron los cuentos en la sociedad galesa medieval, y se indagó cómo las mujeres eran representadas en esta sociedad. Se realizó una comparación entre el estatus de las mujeres en la sociedad celta medieval y las mujeres de otras sociedades medievales. Se propone demostrar que los personajes mujeres asumen su género de manera disruptiva, no ateniéndose a las expectativas de género de la cultura dominante de la sociedad medieval. The present work seeks to study the performance of gender as played out by the women characters in four stories of The Mabinogion: the First, Second, Third and Fourth Branches, four related tales which form a unity with reappearing themes and characters. The origin of the manuscript, containing eleven medieval stories written in Middle Welsh, has been placed around the 7th century, but the manuscripts have been dated circa the 13th century. In order to delve into the disruptive performativity of female roles in the Four Branches of The Mabinogion, the tales will be contextualised in Welsh medieval society and the manner in which women were depicted will be described. The status of Celtic women and that of women belonging to other societies during the medieval period will also be explored. The result of the analysis will show that the female characters perform gender disruptively, not conforming to the gender expectations set by the dominant culture in hegemonic medieval society. |
