AB  - La hipótesis del presente trabajo es que la concepción del símbolo que Paul Ricoeur articula en sus primeras obras es heredera del Romanticismo alemán y que encuentra sus límites en el estructuralismo. Para demostrarlo primero nos concentraremos en la oposición entre símbolo y alegoría que Ricoeur usa para definir el símbolo en sus obras y que se origina en el movimiento romántico en los últimos 30 años del siglo XVIII. Una vez expuesta la génesis de esta oposición veremos como los supuestos que implica, tanto gnoselógicos como ontológicos, están presentes en la propia teoría del símbolo de Ricoeur. Para terminar señalaremos brevemente los cambios en su concepción del símbolo que generó el enfrentamiento con el estructuralismo.
AB  - This essay presents the hypothesis that the symbol conception articulated in the earliests works of Paul Ricoeur, derives from the German Romanticism and finds its limits in the Structuralism. In order to prove this, we will first focus in the opposition between symbol and allegory that Ricoeur employ to define the symbol, which is originated from the Romantic movement throughout the last three decades of the 18th century. Once the genesis of this opposition is stated, the assumptions implyed - both gnoseological and ontological - are to be found in the Ricoeur's own theory of symbol. Finally, we will briefly point out the changes in his symbol conception due to the confrontation with Structuralism.
